Hey Reader,

We’ve always been a rescue family. Most of our pets have come from a shelter, and I honestly can’t stand thinking of animals sitting in kennels, waiting for someone to choose them.

When we lost our dog of 14 years, Zazu, a few years ago, it broke my heart. She was my best buddy. My running partner, my woods-walking sidekick, and my shadow. After she passed, the house felt so empty. But as the days went by, something started to shift.

I realized I could help another dog have a home.
And deep down, I knew Zazu would want that too.

So, we started looking online… and that’s when we saw Wrigley.

When we went to meet him at Pound Buddies, he rolled onto his back, showed us his belly, and that was it. Game over. He was the one.

Those first few days at home, he followed me everywhere...watching, learning, trying to figure out if he could trust me. Slowly, he relaxed. You could almost see the moment he realized he was safe. That he was home.

I remember one particular moment where he had adventured under the stairs in my old office and let out a Scooby Doo like noise... like WHAAAAT

Then came trotting out with Zazu's favorite red rubber ball in his mouth. It had rolled under the stairs and been forgotten about.

We played fetch, and I remember that was when he really started to come out of his shell.

The Reason I Chose PoundBuddies
