The thing I wish someone would have told me when I started my business

You didn't start your business to feel guilty about a Summer morning at the beach.

Hey Reader,

One of the biggest automation myths I hear from wedding pros is:

"I'll automate when I'm busier."

Meanwhile, those same "not busy enough" businesses are juggling inquiries, reschedules, Pinterest-happy couples, and trying to remember who they still need to reply to from last week.

The truth is, automation isn't something you earn after you've "made it." It's one of the tools that helps you get there in the first place.

Lately, I've been reminding myself of something I wanted when I left my corporate job.

I didn't start my own business so I could feel guilty every time I took an afternoon off.

I wanted the freedom to decide that today was the day I'd meet friends at the Coast Guard Festival street dance. Or take Wrigley for a walk to the beach and stay a little longer because it was a beautiful morning. Or grill dinner and relax in a lawn chair instead of staring at my laptop until late at night because Terry is away for work and I feel like I "should" be working.

The funny thing is, somewhere over the last few years, I started believing I should be working a 40-hour week just because I own a business.

But that's not why I built this business.

And I don't think it's why you built yours either.

If you're spending your evenings retyping the same emails, manually sending pricing guides, or answering the same questions over and over, automation isn't about working less because you're lazy. It's about protecting the life you were trying to create in the first place.

A thoughtful inquiry response that goes out automatically while you're watching the sunset? That's not impersonal. It's making sure every potential client receives a warm, professional experience (even when you're taking time to live your life).

This week's blog walks through how to identify those repeatable tasks and decide what to automate first without making your client experience feel robotic.

As you read, I'd love for you to think about one question:

If your business gave you back just two extra hours this week, how would you spend them?

I'd hope your answer isn't "catch up on more work."

I'd hope it's something that reminds you why you wanted to own your own business in the first place.

Cheering you on!
